MOSCOW, JANUARY 26. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- Russia and the United States may have differences in assessments but, what is most important, there is an opportunity to discuss them openly, the United States Secretary of State Colin Powell said, opening up a meeting with members of the learned council under the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Strategic partnership between our countries does not mean we have no differences. They do emerge sometimes but, the force of our relations is that we can openly talk them as befits partners, Powell emphasised.

Thus, we can pass decisions to suit both the partners, Powell said.

Russia is our strategic partner. We are interacting in many areas in a very positive way within the framework of our partnership, said Powell.

To him, Russia and the United States have shaped good trade relations and the two countries are together working on the solution of regional problems. Earlier, we competed in different parts of the world but now I and Igor Ivanov, our presidents George Bush and Vladimir Putin spend much time discussing various problems, including those of regional and bilateral relations, said the American state secretary.
