US PRESIDENT HAPPY WITH RUSSIA-US RELATIONS - POWELL

MOSCOW, January 26 (RIA Novosti) - US President George W. Bush is happy with the development of the Washington-Moscow relationship, said US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

At his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Colin Powell said that in the areas of disagreements, the solid basis of our relations was conducive to open and honest discussions.

According to Colin Powell, in general Russia and the United States have fruitful relations. He noted numerous positive changes that could be seen in the relations in the past three years.

The US official expressed the best wishes from George Bush to Vladimir Putin. He agrees that we have made essential progress [in our relations] in the past three years, said Powell.

In his words, Bush is closely following the implementation of the priority agenda coordinated with Vladimir Putin in Camp David last September. At the meeting with Igor Ivanov [Russian foreign minister], we highlighted this list, said the US guest.

Powell continued that his meeting with the Russian foreign minister considered the issues of Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia and Moldova.

We are cooperating well in a series of areas and in Iraq and Afghanistan too, noted Colin Powell.

Our talks with Igor Ivanov resulted in a good discussion of the Georgian and Moldovan issues, he added.

The US Secretary of State also noted the significant progress in the trade area in the past few months.
