RUSSIA-NATO COUNCIL TO HELD FIRST SESSION IN 2004 AT THE LEVEL OF AMBASSSADORS IN BRUSSELS

BRUSSELS, JANUARY 26, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI). The first session of Russia-NATO Council at the level of ambassadors will be held on Monday in the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels.

The session's agenda includes the discussion of the current issues of mutual relations. Russian NATO envoy Konstantin Totsky will take part in the session.

This will be the first Council's session to be held under the new NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Negotiations in this format are being held regularly, as a rule every month.

The first official meeting of Russia's NATO envoy Konstantin Totsky with the Alliance's head was held on January 21, RIA Novosti was told at the Russian office.

The president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, declared after the talks with the NATO Secretary General on Friday in Davos that the withdrawal of the Russian military bases from Georgia will be discussed at the nearest session of the Russia-NATO Council.
