TBILISI, JANUARY 25 (RIA Novosti corr. Marina Kvaratskhelia) - Thousands of supporters of Mikhail Saakashvili took to the streets in the Ajari capital of Batumi Sunday morning, in the run-up to the inauguration of Georgia's new president elect later in the day. The rally headed for the building of parliament, but was dispersed by police outside the headquarters of Aslan Abashidze, leader of Ajaria (an autonomy within Georgia). Supporters of Abashidze and of his Revival party staged an alternative demonstration this morning.

Political tensions in the Ajari capital are running high now, Georgian television reports.
