MOSCOW, January 24, 2004. /RIA Novosti/. The Russian Armed Forces should be ready to fight in any military conflict, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at the opening of the session of the Academy of Military Sciences.

"The military science has not yet found a precise generalized type of the contemporary war and armed conflict, therefore, the Russian Armed Forces and supreme bodies of military administration should be ready to fight in military conflicts of any type," the minister said.

According to him, the military administration system should be maximally flexible and alert to any threats to Russia's security, which can arise in modern world.

"As the Defense Minister, I regard the formation of new approaches to the Armed Forces' administration and cooperation between various power structures as one of the most vital tasks. From this point of view I assign priority to the functions of the supreme command in the military sphere," Sergei Ivanov noted.
