KIEV, JANUARY 23. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the fuel-energy complex is reaching a qualitatively new level, Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov said to journalists.

"Our countries have signed a protocol on cooperation in the fuel-energy sphere in 2004. Crude oil supplies to the Ukrainian market and refineries have been increased. The protocol also provides for increasing the transit of Russian oil via the territory of Ukraine. We are now working on a long-term agreement on Russian oil transit via Ukraine to European countries. This agreement intends a 15-year cooperation", said Yusufov.

"We continue building up cooperation in the gas sector. The starting point of our qualitatively new relations is our closer positions on establishing a gas consortium between our countries. It will increase the reliability of gas supplies to Ukrainian consumers and ensure a high reliability of Russian gas supplies to countries in East and West Europe", Yusufov said.

He also spoke on the build-up of cooperation in the electricity sector. "Russian companies, particularly the RAO Russia's UES, are eyeing the possibility of participation in holding shares of Energo companies in Ukraine".
