VOLGOGRAD, JANUARY 23. /RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT IRINA ILYICHEVA/ -- Alexander Veshnyakov, head of the Russian Central Election Committee, does not think of the upcoming presidential election as non-alternative. He said this commenting on recent media publications.

According to his prediction, at least five candidates will participate in the election race. "It is my forecast and I will not renounce it", Veshnyakov said.

He recalled that candidates will each have to collect not less than two million signatures in their favour. The CEC working group will make checks of 600,000 randomly chosen signatures for each candidate.

In Veshnyakov's opinion, the bulk of signatures from the candidates' headquarters will arrive to the CEC in the last law-set day, January 28.
