The memorandum of understanding between the Russian Education Ministry and UNESCO on the restoration of the education system in Chechnya was signed on March 14, 2003. In compliance with it, a program was drafted stipulating advance training of the staff of the Education Ministry and the replenishment of the personnel of the Chechen Institute of Advance Training of Teachers. The program also provides for introducing information and communication technologies in education and creating conditions for the psychological, pedagogical and medical-social rehabilitation in emergency situations.
The project is estimated at $2 million. Grigory Ordzhonikidze, executive secretary of the Russian UNESCO Commission, said Japan plans to contribute to the project and has already granted $300,000.
During his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, President Akhmad Kadyrov held talks with Dr Ahmed Mohammed Ali, president of the Islamic Development Bank, who promised assistance in the restoration of the education system of Chechnya.
