MOSCOW, January 21st, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - In his remarks at a press conference in Moscow, President of the World Bank (WB) James Wolfensohn expressed the hope for Russia's assistance in restructuring Iraq's debt.

I have made it clear to President Putin that aid in restructuring Iraq's debt would be welcome, said Wolfensohn.

He pointed out Russia's helpful role in solving the problem of developing countries' debt.

In general, Russia is a fairly essential element in the solution of the debt problem of developing nations, while Russia's own debt remains practically the same, said the WB chairman.
