MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Andrei Kapralov won the first gold medal at the Moscow stage of the World Short Course Swimming Cup in the Olimpiisky swimming-pool on Wednesday.
Andrei Kapralov won the competition in the absence of four-time Olympic Champion Alexander Popov who had come down with the flu.
Other Russian swimmer Yevgeny Logunov, 18, made a sensation during preliminary races in the morning. He won the preliminary race and took fifth place in the finals.
Russian swimmers were the first in other races of the tournament. Roman Sludnov shared the first place in the 50-meter breast stroke race with American Ed Moses. Yelena Bogomazova won the 100-meter breast stroke race.
