MOSCOW, January 21st, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Nearly one third of the president's reserve fund may be spent on WWII veterans' social provision, Anton Danilov-Danilyan in charge of the president's economic department told newsmen on Wednesday.

In 2004 the presidential fund will be as big as last year, i.e. 500 million roubles ($1 equals about 30 roubles).

"If the Russian president does not instruct us to make any additional allocations, we will recommend that the tranche of 150 million roubles be spent on social provision of veterans," said the head of the department. He added that the funds would not only be allotted for in-patient treatment facilities but also for other establishments, including veteran rehabilitation centres. This money will be spent on the purchase of special equipment.

A tranche of 100 million roubles is to be channelled to education establishment of the Culture Ministry.

The Kremlin spokesman continued that the money was meant for the support of gifted children and would be sent to music schools and children's creative centres.
