MOSCOW POSITIVELY ASSESSES COOPERATION WITH UKRAINE IN FOREIGN POLICY

MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti) - Last year saw the consolidation of Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in vital foreign policy issues, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti.

The first joint meeting of the collegia of the Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministries was held in May 2003 in Kiev, he noted. The meeting focused on Russian-Ukrainian strategic partnership, first of all, on international problems.

Yakovenko also pointed out the first meeting between heads of all branches of the judicial authorities of both countries in Odessa (a Ukrainian city on the Black Sea). A document on cooperation was signed as a result of this meeting.

In addition, the official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about the active work of the special bilateral commission on the Black Sea Fleet.
