MOSCOW, January 21st, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russia's economic co-operation with Ukraine received a significant boost in 2003, official spokesman for the Russian foreign ministry Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti.

In his words, in the 11 months of 2003 bilateral trade turnover amounted to $10.7 billion, which is 31.4% more than in the same period of 2002.

The sustainable monthly growth of trade turnover was prompted by Russia's increasing export to Ukraine and the Ukrainian import to Russia, said the foreign ministry spokesman. According to him, Russia's export grew by 29% in the 11 months of 2003 to make about $6.8 billion, while Ukrainian import accounted for about $3.9 billion and saw a 35.4% growth.
