MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Federation Emergencies Ministry employees conducted today morning an operation to rescue fishermen trapped on an icefloe on Lake Baikal.

"Eight fishermen were taken 55m away from the shore by an icefloe from the mouth of the Selenga river to the lake. They were unable to reach the shore on their own, that's why rescuers were called for help," RIA Novosti was told in the emergencies ministry.

As a result, about 8am all people were rescued by a helicopter and brought back to the land. The fishermen's condition is normal.
