In January 2004 the Ulyanovsk Car Plant (UAZ, the Volga region) delivered 1,010 UAZ off-roads to Afghanistan as part of the program of preparations for nationwide elections of Afghanistan's President scheduled for June 2004, said the UAZ press service. All cars will go to polling stations.
"In November 2003 the Ulyanovsk Car Plant won the UN tender on the delivery of all-roads to Kabul," the press service reported.
According to UN experts, classical off-roads of the Ulyanovsk Car Plant were selected on the following criteria: cross-country capacity, reliability, simple servicing and repairs.
