CONTRACT FOR DELIVERY OF ADMIRAL GORSHKOV AIRCRAFT-CARRYING CRUISER TO INDIA SIGNED IN NEW DELHI

NEW DELHI/MOSCOW, January 20 (RIA Novosti) - A contract for the delivery of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft-carrying cruiser to India was signed in New Delhi.

As the report by the press service of Rosoboronexport company says, "a set of contract documents on the Admiral Gorshkov project was signed. The signing took place in the course of the official visit of Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov to India."

Director General of Rosoboronexportm, Andrei Belyaninov signed the contract documents from the Russian side in the presence of the Russian and Indian Ministers of Defense.

"In their scale and comprehensive character the contracts on the Admiral Gorshkov project figure among the largest ones in the history of Russian-Indian military-technical cooperation," the press service officials noted.

Within the project it is planned to hold working meetings on repair and modernization of the ship, on fitting her out with the most up-to-date arms systems and a ship air group (the MiG-29K fighters, and the Ka-27 and Ka-31 anti-submarine picket helicopters), and on setting up of coastal infrastructure.

All in all, several dozens of contract documents on different aspects of the implementation of the project were signed.

The Rosoboronexport officials note that the signing of the contract documents on the Admiral Gorshkov project "strengthens the military-technical and military-political components of strategic partnership between Moscow and New Delhi."

The sum of the contract for delivery of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft-carrying cruiser is of the order of 1.5 billion dollars.
