MOSCOW, January 20 (RIA Novosti) - Vice-Premier Viktor Khristenko believes that the failure of merger of the Yukos and Sibneft Russian oil companies will not make business unwilling to merge.

He called the very fact of the cancellation of the deal "an unsuccessful case."

"TNK and BP (Tyumenskaya Neftyanaya Kompaniya and British Petroleum) successfully merged quite recently. From all points of view, it was not a less serious deal. It is most likely that this project was more clearly and carefully prepared by the managers who were mindful of all the kinds of risks, not only of the purely economic ones," Khristenko said.

"Mergers did, do and will occur, they meet the challenges of globalization, because it is simpler for large companies to survive in a 'global' world," the vice-chairman of the government noted at the "business breakfast" in Rossiiskaya Gazeta.

Furthermore, he is sure that the process will not confine itself to the oil and gas complex but mergers will inevitably embrace also other sectors of the economy.
