NEW DELHI, January 19, 2003. (RIA Novosti) - The goal of the visit of Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov to India is the further development of bilateral cooperation in the military and military-technical field, said a source in the Russian delegation.

"Strategic partnership is based on the coincidence of the two states' vital national interests. We are well aware of the importance of cooperation with India for bilateral relations and international security. It promotes the formation of a balanced-out, multipolar system of relations on the world scale," said the source.

At present, Russian-Indian military cooperation is large and dynamic, a true reflection of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The Russian-Indian program of military-technical cooperation, singed in December 1998 until 2010, involves actually every area of military and military-technical cooperation. One of the main directions of naval cooperation is the implementation of the agreement between the Russian and Indian governments on the transfer to India of the heavy aircraft-carrier the Admiral Gorshkov, its repair, updating and the supply of shipborne aircraft Mig-29K for it.
