MOSCOW, January 19, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The All-Russia Insurers Union intends to join the European Insurers Committee in June-July this year, the Union's president Alexander Koval told reporters on Monday.

At the present time 7,000 organisations from 31 countries are members of the European Insurers Committee. It has been functioning for fifty years now.

As to the Russian companies, said Koval, it is better to speak of consolidating the insurers communities." There are 72 insurance associations in Russia. However, it is difficult to say how many of them are really functioning, he noted.

Under the amendments to the legislation in force, the insurers unions and associations will be re-registered this year, and a register of insurance organisations will be drawn up.
