TBILISI, January 17, 2004. /RIA Novosti/ -- Georgian Foreign Ministry made a statement, stressing again on the necessity of the Russian military bases withdrawal from the country.

The statement outlines the appearance of the "positive tendencies in the Russo-Georgian relations, including the relations in the sensitive and complicated military-political sphere." "In order to achieve the normalization and further development of bilateral relations the Georgian part is ready to imply maximum efforts to settle all the current problematic issues, including the one on the Russian military bases withdrawal from Georgia," the document reads.

The Georgian part insists on the withdrawal of bases within the next three years. Moscow is for the term of 11 years. However, the official source in the Russian Foreign Ministry stated to journalists recently that the term could be decreased "with the proper extra financing from other sources." The Georgian statement reads that the OSCE countries expressed their readiness to render extra financial assistance to help the process of the Russian military bases withdrawal from Georgia.

In this regard the Georgian part hopes that Russia and Georgia will manage to settle the current issue on the basis of "mutual interests being taken into consideration."
