MOSCOW, January 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Rodina (Fatherland) faction in the State Duma, parliament's lower house, is blaming a current energy crisis on the United Russian Power Grid (EES) company. The industrial giant indignantly denies the charge.

Heating has been going on without a hitch in the cold season of 2003/04, wherever the company's industrial affiliates are concerned, Andrei Yegorov, company chief of PR, said to Novosti.

The Rodina group will make an inquiry about an energy crisis in Russia as the Duma debates national developmental strategies with Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov at its plenary session tomorrow, Sergei Glazyev, faction leader, said to the media. The group will address the house to doubt the legitimacy of the electric monopoly's top officers, he added.

"Either Mr. Glazyev is mistaken or misinformed," Andrei Yegorov remarked to that.

Anatoli Chubais is to remain at the head of the company board for another five years on a contract he and Alexander Voloshin, Directors' Board president, signed April last. The law court has recognised contract validity. Victor Kudriavy, former federal Deputy Minister of Power Industry, questioned the contract in several suits, which two judicial instances, or even more, have turned down, points out Mr. Yegorov.
