MOSCOW, January 15th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - When meeting the premier to discuss the country's strategic development at a plenary session of the State Duma (lower house) on Friday, the Motherland faction intends to raise the issue of Russia's energy crisis, Chairman of the faction Sergei Glazyev said Thursday after the faction's session.

"Russia's Unified Energy Systems (UES) is abusing its position of a monopolist and offering poor quality services to the population," said Glazyev.

"The temperature inside many Russians' flats does not go above ten degrees cantigrade. Accordingly, the company is trying to increase maximally its revenues at the expense of the provinces," the faction leader said.

Glazyev also noted that the faction was going to raise the issue of the illegitimacy of the energy holding's leadership.

"Mr. Chubais's contract has long expired. And we intend to draw the government's attention to the fact that there can be no master of the energy sector for us," said Glazyev.
