MOSCOW, January 15, 2004. /RIA Novosti/. Foreigners committed some 35,000 crimes in Russia in 2003, Russian Deputy Interior Minister, Colonel-General of the Police Alexander Chekalin told a briefing on Thursday.

"Foreign citizens committed about 35,000 crimes of violence and lucre," Chekalin said. According to him, the crimes are mainly committed by lumpen wage laborers" who often rob the objects which they had been building earlier.

However, Russia is interested in foreign labor force, Chekalin stressed. "We come out for deportation of lawbreakers and against mass deportation which cause tension in interstate relations," Chekalin said.
