OMSK, January 15, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent Aleksei Berezin/. The US authorities have not yet taken a decision on the transfer of American military bases from Germany to Poland, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Thursday.
"The US authorities officially reported that no final decision on the redeployment of many Pentagon's bases in different regions has been taken yet. However, many variants are under consideration," the minister told journalists in Omsk where he met with the leadership of Russia's Siberian Federal District.
"As far as I know, the USA considers a possibility to transfer bases from Germany to Poland and some other European countries, in particular, Romania," the Russian Defense Minister noted.
According to him, Washington promised to inform Moscow on the final decision.
The approach of any NATO military infrastructure to Russia's borders "cannot but arouse Moscow's relevant response".
