MOSCOW, January 15. (RIA Novosti). The secret services should act tough and efficiently in neutralizing and liquidating a terrorist network, Vladimir Putin said while addressing the board meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

"The latest forms and methods of work should be used more actively on a par with the traditional ones," the President stressed, adding that "Any provocation on the part of terrorists should be counteracted by adequate tactics of the security bodies. " "The President also noted that "the situation in the North-Caucasian region, including Chechnya, must remain under special control".

Vladimir Putin stressed that the FSB and other law enforcement structures have done much for the normalisation of the situation and the successful furtherance of the process of political settlement in the Chechen Republic.

"But today people in this region must have all possibilities for the implementation of constitutional rights and economic freedoms ," the President said.

Speaking about combating terrorism, the head of state pointed to the "special importance " of coordinating work of the special services within the framework of the international anti-terrorist coalition, as well as within the format of the CIS anti-terrorist center, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Organisation of the Collective Security Treaty. "We have had many chances to see for ourselves that the pooling of potentials augments our possibilities and makes combating terrorism more effective.
