MOSCOW, January 15, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that last year the Federal Security Service (FSB) succeeded in fulfilling the set tasks.

When speaking at the session of the FSB's extended board, the President thanked its servicemen for "faithful service, fulfillment of complicated, sometimes life-threatening tasks".

"Ensuring the country's security is a pledge of Russia's social and international stability. It is a condition for its steady democratic development and a crucial factor of economic progress," the Russian leader pointed out.
