MOSCOW, January 15, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Oleg Osipov) - Vladimir Putin has instructed servicemen of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) to intensify the fight against illegal migration.
"It is a relatively new problem for Russia, which in recent years has become one of the most topical," the Russian President said, when speaking at the FSB board on Thursday.
According to him, sometimes migrants are deprived of their rights and need protection both in their relations with employers and in coping with officials' despotism. This encourages law violations and aggravates the crime situation in certain regions, Putin said.
