MOSCOW, January 14, RIA Novosti correspondent Andrei Malosolov - Excise duty can be levied on sturgeon and black caviar.

As Russian Agriculture Minister and Vice Premier Alexei Gordeyev told the media Wednesday, in the wake of the fishing industry discussion, the Russian government is currently studying this option.

According to the minister this measure has been called by the need for government regulation of sturgeon fishing. It will include a tougher control of the catch, processing and marketing of this kind of fish.

The government is planning to make relevant amendments to this country's Tax Code, and to the licensing law, the vice premier reported.
