"The finance ministry of the Russian Federation is planning to allocate funds for the withdrawal of the Russian bases from Georgia only after an interstate agreement is signed," the minister said.
The minister pointed out that this agreement had not been signed yet.
Sergei Ivanov stressed that the withdrawal of the Russian bases will be thoroughly thought out. "There will be no withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia similar to the way it was with Germany. Then, soldiers, officers and weapons were thrown into nowhere and this was called a withdrawal. This will not be repeated," the minister told journalists. According to him, Russia should build new military cantonments for servicemen from the bases being withdrawn from Georgia.
Ivanov reported that the fate of the Russian bases is being discussed with the Georgian authorities.
