RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ARRIVES IN BEIJING

BEIJING, January 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has arrived in Beijing.

In the plans for Wednesday are the talks of the Russian Minister with his Chinese counterpart Li Zhaoxing.

During his Chinese visit Igor Ivanov will also take part in events devoted to the official beginning of the work of the secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and in a special session of the Council of Ministers of the SCO's member-states.

As RIA Novosti was told by the official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Yakovenko, at their special session the heads of foreign policy departments of the SCO's member-states will discuss issues related to the implementation of the decisions of the Organization's Moscow summit which took place in the spring of 2003 and the preparations for the forthcoming Tashkent meeting of the heads of government slated for May-June 2004.

The member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
