CHECHNYA - CACHES OF ARMS DISCOVERED ONCE AGAIN

MOSCOW, January 13, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Several caches containing large amounts of arms and ammunition have been discovered by law enforcement officers in Chechnya over the last 24 hours.

A large cache was disclosed on the northern outskirts of the Shali district's village of Novye Atagi, the press service of the Regional Operational HQ for the Anti-Terrorist Operation in the North Caucasus reported.

"The cache contained 14 RPG-18 light anti-tank grenade launchers, a TM-62 anti-tank mine and 250 cartridges for automatic weapons. All the ammunition and arms were destroyed on the spot," the press service said.

Besides, in the woods 3 km away from the Urus-Martan district's settlement of Alkhan-Yurt federal forces found a cache revealing 4 Shmel liquid fire projectors, 24 grenade launcher rounds, a self-made coil to ignite an explosive device and 400 cartridges. The find was also destroyed on the spot.

Another cache was found in a ruined garage in Grozny. It contained an automatic rifle, a grenade launcher and rounds, a machine-gun, a Shmel liquid fire projector and a lot of cartridges.
