RUSSIA FOREIGN MINISTER BECOMES HONORARY DOCTOR OF MONGOLIAN STATE UNIVERSITY

ULAN BATOR, January 13, 2004 (RIA Novosti) -- The title of honorary doctor of Mongolian State University has been awarded to Russia's Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov. The awarding ceremony was held in the building of this educational establishment on Tuesday in the presence of the academic council. The Russian Minister is staying in Mongolia on a two-day official visit.

"This attention on the part of a major university which is well-known and respected far beyond your country's borders is very dear to me", Ivanov stated in the course of the ceremony.

He noted that in Moscow they highly value the close ties between Mongolian educational establishments and the universities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg (the Urals area), and a number of other Russian cities.

"It is part and parcel of our countries' co-operation in the sphere of education, science and culture. Russia appreciates the cultural and spiritual ties which have historically become established between our peoples," the Russian Foreign Minister emphasised.
