30 TERRORISM CASES FILED BY CHECHEN PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE LAST YEAR

MOSCOW, January 12, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - 30 terrorism cases were filed by the Chechen Prosecutor's Office in 2003. This was disclosed by Vladimir Kravchenko, Prosecutor of the Chechen Republic, in an interview with RIA Novosti on Monday.

"We have done great work. 30 terrorism cases, which involved 48 persons, were submitted to the court. Besides, we are through with investigation into 12 cases of kidnapping, and we have done away with 17 gangs, which robbed common people under the cover of hullabaloo slogans and ideas," Kravchenko said.

2003 was remarkable in work on developing state-legal institutions in the Chechen Republic, the prosecutor pointed out.

"In collaboration with other law enforcement structures we arranged a constitutional referendum, parliamentary and presidential elections. We proved that we are able to keep the situation under control," the prosecutor underlined.

Vladimir Kravchenko congratulated all the staff of the Prosecutor's Office with their professional holiday, which is celebrated on January 12th in Russia.
