ASTANA, JANUARY 9, RIA NOVOSTI - Russia and Kazakhstan are both determined to enhance environmental cleanliness of the Russian-rented Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan, stress Presidents Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev in a bilateral agreement for effective use of the centre, which they signed today.

The Parties recognise the necessity of environmental safety of Kazakh-based space rocket efforts, which will be enhanced through updating the available launching pads and developing new and cleaner ones, says Clause 3 of the agreement. It envisages gradually reduced use of rockets that work on amyl heptyl, a highly poisonous fuel.
