ASTANA, JANUARY 9, RIA NOVOSTI - Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan highlighted an essential importance of ever closer bilateral partnership in space efforts. A joint statement they signed says that prolonged Russian renting of the Kazakh-based Baikonur space centre will make its use more effective, to either Party's benefit, will promote implementing the latest R&D, and help to cope with environmental challenges.

The signatory countries will carry on and step up military-technological cooperation, which they regard as an essential aspect of strategic partnership for regional security, says the statement.
