RUSSIA-KAZAKHSTAN: PRESIDENTS SIGN FRONTIER COOPERATION TREATY

ASTANA, JANUARY 9, RIA NOVOSTI - Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan signed a bilateral treaty on partnership in frontier issues, for a five-year term.

The treaty envisages team efforts to guard the Russian-Kazakh frontier, and detect and combat criminal activities-in particular, terrorism, drug traffic, and smuggling arms, munitions, explosives, poisons and radioactive materials.

The Frontier Service under Russia's Federal Security Service and the Kazakh Frontier Service will exchange information and knowhow concerning frontier guard and protection.
