THREE MILITANTS DETAINED IN GROZNY

MOSCOW, JANUARY 9, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI). Three militants of notorious field commander Yunadi Turchayev were detained in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya , on Thursday. RIA Novosti was told today in the North-Caucasian operative department of the Russian interior ministry that one of them, called Abu-Vakhid, lives in the Akhmetovsky district of Georgia, bordering on Chechnya.

The interior ministry reports that during the search conducted in the house, where the militants hid, a storage of weapons was found, in particular, five Kalashnikov sub-machine guns, three grenade launchers, 10 kg of TNT, and more than 4,000 cartridges of various calibre. In addition, the policemen found there 12 ECU and KENWOOD radiostations, special equipment and a camouflage uniform.

The interior ministry does not rule out that the detained militants were involved in a number of heavy crimes on the Chechen territory.
