HUMANITARIAN AID FOR BAM RESIDENTS ARRIVES IN IRAN

TEHERAN, January 6, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Terekhov/ -- On Tuesday Ilyushin Il-67 transport plane of the Russian Emergencies Ministry with humanitarian aid for population of the Iranian city of Bam that suffered in an earthquake arrived in Teheran.

In compliance with the authorities' instruction, the cargo from Russia (medicines, living tents and heating devices) will be urgently delivered to Bam citizens, representative of the Iranian organization of the Red Crescent Dr. Hassan Habibi reported.

The amount of humanitarian aid from Russia is expected to rise further. Part of the cargoes may be delivered to the country by land.

The powerful earthquake in Bam on December 26th killed from 32,000 to 35,000 people and injured 14,600 people.
