VIENNA, JANUARY 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Borislav Pechnikov) -- The OSCE incumbent chairman, Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Solomon Passy greeted the peaceful and normal, as he said, presidential elections in Georgia.

The OSCE secretariat made his statement public in Vienna on Tuesday.

According to Passy, it is necessary to take all possible measures to continue the political process in Georgia within the framework of the country's constitution.

He expressed hope that the elected Georgian President and the Georgian leadership as well as political parties and a civil society as a whole will support their country's striving towards democratic values, creating democratic institutions and economic and social development.

Solomon Passy stressed the importance of preserving the territorial integrity and national unity of Georgia as the main prerequisite for the democratisation of the country and stability in the southern Caucasus.
