    GROZNY, January 5th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Two militants have been eliminated in a clash in Chechnya, the Regional Operative HQ for the Counter-Terrorist Operation in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

    According to the HQ, residents of the Benoi settlement told the local police on Sunday that they had seen three strangers on the local market, who behaved in a nervous and suspicious way. A police squad immediately arrived at the site. When the policemen tried to check their documents, the three suspects opened fire. As a result of the clash, two criminals were killed and one seriously wounded. The militants had three Kalashnikovs and five grenades on them.

    At present, the killed bandits are being identified and their involvement in other crimes in the republic established.
