NAZRAN, January 5th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - The provisional operative group of the Russian Interior Ministry, the local crime squad and the republic's special police unit detained two active participants of the Wahhabi underground movement in the Ekazhevo settlement of Ingushetia (a North Caucasus republic bordering on Chechnya), the Ingush police reported Monday.

According to a police spokesman, the detainees whose names are kept secret were on the federal wanted list for a long time.

"The search in the house of a detainee discovered 50 scarves with Sur inscriptions from the Koran that female suicide bombers are usually supplied with, and large amounts of Wahhabi literature. The detainees can be involved in the preparation of a number of terrorist acts committed by suicide bombers in the North Caucasus," the spokesman said.

The criminals are now being interrogated by investigators in an Ingush detention centre.
