MOSCOW, January 5th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Abkhazia is seeking to establish civilised relations with Georgia based on the principles of equality and good-neighbourliness, said Vice President of the self-proclaimed republic Valery Arshba.

"Abkhazia is a peaceful country seeking civilised relations with Georgia. Georgian policy towards Abkhazia should be guided by principles of equality, good neighbourliness and non-use of force. These principles should underlie Georgia-Abkhazia relations," the Abkhazian Vice President said expressing the hope for a peace treaty with Georgia.

When asked about the Georgian elections, Valery Arshba noted that Abkhazia did not interfere with "internal affairs of its neghbour." He also warned the future president of Georgia against the tricky euphoria of the victory.

"I would not like him [the future president] to make tough statements in regard to Abkhazia. On the contrary, we hope that militant rhetoric will remain in the past," Valery Arshba said.
