MOSCOW, January 3rd, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - A new edition of the Belarussian-Russian dictionary in three volumes has been released in Minsk.

According to the Belarussian embassy in Moscow, the new edition was drafted by scientists of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Language Studies of the Belarussian National Academy of Sciences.

The previous edition was published in 1988. In the past 15 years the lexicon of the Belarussian language has considerably changed.

According to experts, this is due to Belarus' development as a sovereign state and the reaction of the language to the changes in the state and social life.

Foreign borrowings has come into wide use recently: e.g., electorate, rating, server, pager, Internet, site and Jihad.

These words and other neologisms are fixed in the new edition. Besides, the dictionary specifies the spelling of certain words and of their grammar forms.
