RUSSIAN ECONOMY ATTRACTS VIETNAMESE INVESTMENTS

HANOI, January 2 (RIA Novosti) - Vietnamese businessmen prefer more and more to invest in the Russian economy, the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment reported.

According to the data of the Ministry, at present Russia has 11 investment projects of Vietnamese businessmen with total capital investment of $34.3 mln.

The lion's share of the Vietnamese investments in Russia are aimed at food industry, fish industry, constructing and constructing materials. One of the major projects is the construction in Vladimir (180 km east of Moscow) of the Tile Factory with the total budget of $16 mln. The investor of this project is a large Hanoi construction materials company.

The Ministry also noted that in 2003 the amount of foreign investments into the Vietnamese economy was estimated at $3.1 bln, which is 20% more than in 2002. Most of the finances were invested into industrial and building fields.

The total amount of the Vietnamese investments abroad in 2003 totaled some $217 mln.
