GEORGIA IN THE WAKE OF EARLY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

TBILISI, January 2 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia is getting ready for the early Presidential elections, scheduled to be held on Sunday, January 4th.

Approximately 3 mln voting ballots will be send on Friday to all election polls, including the Adjaria autonomy, the press-service of the Central Election Commission disclosed.

In the course of the parliamentary elections on November 2nd, 2003 3.3 mln voting ballots were printed for Georgian citizens (excluding the citizens of the two rebel independent republics Abkhazia and South Ossetia).

Observers from many countries of the world, including from the EU and Russia, are expected to participate in the Georgian presidential elections.

950 foreign journalists will be highlighting the elections.

Six candidates are running for the presidency in Georgia. They are head of the National Movement organization Mikhail Saakashvili; leader of political movement David the Builder Roin Liparteliani; Head of Georgian Lawyers Association Kartlos Garibashvili; Head of political movement Mdzleveli, Zurab Kelekhsashvili; leader of the non-government organization League of Georgian Invalids Zaza Sikharulidze and former Governor of Imeretiya (Georgian region) Teimuraz Shashiashvili.
