TBILISI, January 2 (RIA Novosti) - In the beginning of 2004 a new Georgian-Russian Friendship Foundation will be formed, Information Agency "Novosti/Georgia" reported.

"The aim for the formation of the foundation is the strengthening of Russo-Georgian relations and participation in the peaceful settlement of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict," initiator of the foundation, Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker Vakhtang Rcheulishvili said.

The Russian-Georgian economic forum will be one of the foundation founders. "The talks with other potential participants in the project, who are interested in the strengthening of the Russo-Georgian relations, are being held in Georgia as well as in Russia," Vakhtang Rcheulishvili said.

Among the top aims the initiators of the foundation formation name the restoration of the spiritual relations of the Georgian Orthodoxy with the Holy Land. With the support of the Georgian business community a house was purchased in Bethlehem, where a Georgian Orthodox church would be placed, Vakhtang Rcheulishvili noted.
