Washington will "take all necessary steps to ensure the security of the homeland and protect our allies in the region," US President Donald Trump said in a statement Friday.

Washington "rejects the regime's claim that these tests — and these weapons — ensure North Korea's security. In reality, they have the opposite effect."

"By threatening the world, these weapons and test further isolate North Korea, weaken its economy, and deprive its people," the Trump administration added.

South Korea and the US tested a ballistic missile a few hours ago in a show of force against Pyongyang.

The test reinforced the allies' could conduct a "precise strike on the enemy's leadership," the Joint Chiefs of Staff reportedly said in a statement.

North Korea's ballistic missile test traversed 1,000 kilometers before splashing down in the Sea of Japan.
