Flooding in the American Midwest this week has caused enormous damage and at least 23 deaths.

In addition to the 23 known fatalities, four people (two in Illinois, one in Missouri and one in Oklahoma) have been reported missing. Hundreds of homes in the Midwest have been damaged as the Mississippi, the Meramec and the Missouri rivers overflowed after heavy rainfall this week.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency earlier in the week.
