    Officials in the South Caucasus nation of Georgia have confiscated about 230 pounds of heroin from a truck driven by a Turkish citizen across the border from Russia, the Georgian Interior Ministry said Thursday.

    TBILISI, July 4 (RIA Novosti) – Officials in the South Caucasus nation of Georgia have confiscated about 230 pounds of heroin from a truck driven by a Turkish citizen across the border from Russia, the Georgian Interior Ministry said Thursday.

    Some 230 packages, each containing a little over a pound of heroin (500 grams), were found in the Mercedes-brand truck as it was being inspected after crossing the border, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the vehicle had a Moldovan license plate.

    The driver and a Moldovan man accompanying him were detained, the statement said, adding that the illicit cargo had a street value of tens of millions of US dollars.
