A soldier was killed and two police officers received injuries when they were attacked by unknown assailants in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, a police source told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
The source said the attack occurred on Monday afternoon during a reconnaissance operation in a wooded area in the republic’s Vedensky district.
A search for the attackers, who were armed with automatic weapons, is underway.
Sporadic terrorist attacks and militant clashes are common in Russia's largely Muslim North Caucasus republics, especially Dagestan, Chechnya and Ingushetia.
